About Us

This is a blog which was started by Rebecca Warnberg and Hoan Nguyen. We are both Elementary Education majors at the University of South Alabama. This spring semester, we both were enrolled in a class called EDM 310. This is a class which teaches Education majors all about technology. We have learned so much through taking this course. Before we took EDM 310, we had never considered the benefits that technology could bring to our future classrooms. There are many ways that teachers can use technology in every grade level. We used to think that technology was only appropriate for middle and high school students. However, we have seen many examples of elementary school teachers that have found very effective ways to incorporate technology. For instance, here is a kindergarten class that has a class blog.
So what are the benefits of using technology? Well, there are many ways in which technology can improve schooling. First of all, students relate to technology because they use it in their everyday lives. Children are being exposed to technology at very young ages. For example, here's a video of an infant using an iPhone. Children are interested in technology, and technology is a part of almost every other aspect of our lives. So why not use technology in the classroom? Another reason for using technology in the classroom is that technology allows students t connect with others. If a students is allowed to post an assignment on the internet using a blog, they will get feedback from people around the world. That's pretty exciting for a students. Also, a parent can check their child's progress regularly simply by going online.
There are so many reasons that teachers should use technology. We hope that you will choose to experiment with these possibilities in your classroom. Through this blog, we hope that other educators will be inspired to learn more about technology. When educators open the door to technology their students will benefit immensely.
